April 5, 2010 will mark the return to the world of baseball of the Boston Red Sox, no the team never left they just suffered a lot of setbacks last season. Those setbacks are now a thing of the past and as a result there is a new found energy that is coming from the locker room of the Red Sox. They feel that this will be their year to make an impression on the world of baseball. This impression will be the key to the Red Sox getting back to their former winning ways.

Now we all know the importance that a strong bullpen will play when it comes to making the best out of a baseball game. The bullpen is where things either go good for you, or where you are made to be miserable when playing the game.

Beyond there needing to be a strong starter, there will also need to be several other players that will be able to close out for the Red Sox. These closer are a part of the team that many people tend to overlook when talking about the power that they can offer the team. These closers will need to be in place in order to make sure that the Red Sox win their games.

There will need to be a lot more in the way of offense than just great pitching that will make the team one of the more dominant forces on the field this season, the Red Sox will need their big hitters to step up and bring the heat, these players will be the heart and soul of getting the team out there and making the big plays. The more power that the hitters bring, the more of a force that the Red Sox will be on the ground.

The Red Sox have the infield and the outfield covered on all bases, there will not be many plays that will get past them, last season the team led the MLB in the most double plays for the year. This great field play will be the key in getting the team to make the plays that will shut the offense of other teams completely down.

The Red Sox have what is considered in baseball to be one of the best infields in the entire baseball world. There is rarely a play that gets past the Red Sox and as a result keeps the other teams from scoring several runs as a result. This is the one area of the team that needs little to no work. This is the strongest part of the teams entire defense. This is why Boston in a lot of people’s eyes this season is destined to do great things on the field.

The power that will be heading to the plate this season will be some of the strongest that has played for Boston is a long while. There will be a lot of players this season that will be aiming for the outside of the park when they hit their balls. This will as a result lead to several home runs that the opposing pitcher will just have to stand a watch. Expect to receive a souvenir anytime you head out to a Red Sox game this season. This will be a season of home runs for the team.

No matter what you may want to think about the team this season, there will be little doubt that the team will be able to compete with the best of teams this year. There will be a lot of teams this season that will need to have a back up plan when it comes to playing against the Red Sox this season.

When October comes around this year, one of two things will happen, first the Braves will be sitting at home watching the playoffs, or two they will be giving Bobby Cox the best send off as a manager that they can with a World Series win.

Now if the previous years are an indicator as to what kind of season to expect then there will be a long year ahead of them. Now there is a little bit of hope, that the Braves can try to aspire for in this the final season for Bobby Cox. Now is not a good time to be a fan of the Braves. There are several reasons for this and here they are.

So let’s see what there is i the way of pitching power in the bullpen, That was a quick inventory, there is a bunch of players that are either prone to injury, or are too young to even know all that Bobby Cox has forgotten about baseball. I will be honest here, there is a better chance of Bobby Cox being a good pitcher for the Braves than some of the prospects that there are now.

So there is a severe lack of a starting pitcher that is capable of getting the job done from the mound. Well maybe there is a closer that can seal the deal. One that note you strike out as well. There is not a closer that will be able to make up for the lack of leadership in the bull pen.

Now let’s look at the hitting of a baseball. This is one area that the team seems to also have a lot of trouble in getting the job done. Maybe the Braves need to go back to the basics that we all learned in tee ball, aim for the ball and hit it with your bat. I have no idea as to why this concept escapes the team, there is no reason why the Braves should struggle in the hitting department. I say let’s give Bobby Cox a chance to hit the ball, after all this is as good of a chance as any other player will have. Maybe he would actually do better.

Now there is a glimmer of hope when it comes to the infield, there are a few players that appear to be working out in the infield positions, this will be the only saving grace for the team. This will be the items that will help to make the team a lot more powerful when it comes to scoring runs and winning games.

I don’t want to go so far as saying that the Atlanta Braves are a bad baseball team, there is just a lot of work on the team that no amount of spring training will be able to work off. There will need to be a small miracle when it comes to the Braves reaching the Post season, if all else fails then maybe Bobby Cox can strap up and show these young players how the game is supposed to be played.

The Ohio State University is proud to be represented by the Ohio State Buckeyes in its baseball games and tournaments. The baseball program was initiated in 1882 and since then, the Ohio State Buckeyes has consistently managed to perform for the University.

The Ohio State Buckeyes has been coached by hall of fame coach Bob Todd. He has been coaching the baseball team for the Ohio State Buckeyes for at least 20 years now and still going strong. Even though baseball was not that strong game, the Ohio State Buckeyes have made a significant amount of progress during their playing years.

They have been known to take part in a number of competitions which included the National Championships, CWS, NCCA Tournament and the Conference Tournament Champions. Despite being criticized about not being able to produce enough quality star players, there are a selected few that have made it through.

The Bill Davis Stadium has always been witness to the Ohio State Buckeyes’ home games. The stadium can hold a roaring crowd of up to 5,500 people. The team can easily be set apart from its rivals because of its distinctive colors, Scarlet and Grey.

Ohio State Buckeyes has also produced some top quality players who have found their way in major league baseball. Some players include Nick Swisher, Steve Arlin, and Frank Howard.

Another player that made it to major league through the Ohio State Buckeyes was Steve Arlin. Steve was born on September 25th, 1945. He played his debut game for the San Diego Padres on June 17th, 1969. He had some amazing career statistics before he retired. Being a pitcher, he was able to maintain an earned run average of 4.33 and a pitching record of 34-67.

His total amount of strike outs achieved was 463. He did change his team in the final year of his career where he moved to the Cleveland Indians. His final performance was on September 14th, 1974.

Another remarkable player was Frank Howard, born on August 8, 1936. He made it to the major league baseball scene when he played for the Los Angeles Dodgers on September 10, 1958. He also played for the Washington Senators, Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers and the Taiheiyo Club Lions. His 15-year career ended on his last game for the Detroit Tigers on September 30, 1973.

Swisher, Arlin and Howard are just some of the Ohio State Buckeyes players that made it big in the major league tournaments. With such a rich historical record, and a reputable coach, the Ohio State Buckeyes is surely on its journey to success and victory.

If you have ever dreamed about being a player in Major League Baseball or at least imagine that you could be a better manager then the guy managing your favorite MLB team, then perhaps fantasy baseball leagues are for you. By joining such a fantasy baseball leagues, you get the chance to live vicariously through your team’s players and at the same time be in control of the management of the team.

Joining a fantasy league is not a difficult process. There are numerous leagues from which to choose from over the Internet. A simple web search will yield a variety of possibilities, from free to join to “keeper” leagues (these are leagues in which one keeps their team from one year to the next.)

After you have signed up for a league, your first decision is what kind of draft to have. There are live drafts and then there are auto drafts. With the use of auto draft, you do not need to be online to participate. Players are pre-ranked and when your turn comes around, the computer automatically selects the best available player for you. If you like, you can go in ahead of time and change the rankings to have better control over getting your favorites.

Participating in a live draft can be exciting and fun. You are given a draft position and a set amount of time to make your selections. It’s usually a good idea to have in mind who your top picks will be before the draft begins so that you do not run out of time during your round.

Now that your team is determined, your job is to stay on top of all the news. Who is injured? Who is playing well? Who is playing poorly? You will want to make changes to the daily roster based on this information. A baseball league is demanding as the season is 162 games long.

Most scoring systems are based on the accomplishments of each of your players during each game. For hitters, points are awarded for home runs, runs scored, RBIs, stolen bases, doubles and triples. For pitchers, points are based on wins, strikeouts, saves, and earned run average. Some systems subtract points for negative plays. Examples of this are walks allowed by pitchers and runners caught stealing.

For many years now, millions of players across the globe have been enjoying fantasy baseball leagues. They are easy to play and have been a way of making new friends. The only tough part is deciding whether you should make a trade. Do you want to give up your top veteran player for the chance at starting the new rookie?

If you have never played any fantasy games, you should really try them. Fantasy baseball will be one of many different fantasy type offers you will find through the year. Each new season of football, hockey and even golf have new fantasy games that you can play.

Looking into injuries that may slow down a good player from last year, and other news can help you make the right picks. If you see someone holding out on a contract, it may mean they may not be playing right away. You will need to decide if you have a strong enough team to make it until that person is ready to play. Of course your first fantasy baseball step will be draft day!

However, if you do not know what players to choose, you may be stuck with a team that just does not perform well. You might as well get ready to realize that you cannot build a team with all the top names either. You will have a draft, and many of the top picks will go before you even have a choice.

There is also a way that you can set up the draft to go automatic for you. This can be found on the site that you have picked to host your games. Sometimes even leaving the pick how the computer as set it up can actually work out to giving you one fabulous team that performs very well. But again that is up to you and how you would like to set it up.

Each week you will be facing another person in your league and there team. Points are earned for the different things that happen in the game. You can see a complete break down to the ways you earn points by looking at the rules page. You will be hoping for the most points and the most wins through the whole season.

Trades can help you out when it comes to getting rid of that player who is not doing well, or someone who is injured and out for the year. You can either propose a trade with another team and hope they agree, or look at the free agents available. Free agents can lead to some of the best picks and additions to your team, so be sure to check them out often.

You just never know who can be on that free agent page, and a quick look may have you picking up a top performer. You cannot and will not get a team that has all the top names, there is no possible way. For one thing people will pick the top players quickly, and no one is going to stack your team for you and let you trade for those players.

Baseball has been a well known sport for a very long time in the United States and now, all around the world in many different countries. From securing the best baseball equipment to guaranteeing the best baseball instruction, there are many different things that one can do to increase the chance of improving their baseball skills. The American major baseball league offers many different ways to train their players to make them the best that they can be and now you can do the same in your very own home. You or your children can become better baseball players in a very short time if you can focus in on your flaws and hone in on your intensity to improve your game.

Everyone can always improve one aspect of their game, but some are better than others at certain things. For example, one player on a team might have great agility while someone else may have great catching skills. This is why players are placed where they are on a roster for a specific reason. There has never been an ultimate player that exhibits an amazing performance in every aspect of baseball. This is why baseball is a team sport. Without a team, baseball would be pointless and it would just be a display of hitting catching and running.

Baseball requires a lot of speed, a lot of focus, and a quick reaction time. A hitter has to be able to accurately slam a pitch and take off running immediately after. Timing is a very vital variable in baseball that determines several differing outcomes in the game. Hitting is just one component of the game; every player must be able to catch a ball quickly and accurately. Catching a baseball can be very challenging which is why professional baseball players have had training for years before they are at the professional level. Lastly, baseball requires a lot of specific focus. For example, running from base to base at a specific time and estimating a distance compared to your speed; this takes a lot of focus.

When training for baseball in and out of the season, there are many different types of equipment that you can use. Many high profile batters use pitching machines. When using a pitching machine, it is important to have a precise machine that will send you different pitches. You will want to focus on how many accurate hits you can get per session. Other equipment that you can utilize is weighted baseball bats. Once you can accurately swing a bat that is double the weight of your normal bat, your original string will be much stronger.

Baseball has become more well known over more recent years and children are beginning to start the sport at a much younger age from little league through high school and all the way to college and/or pro baseball. Because the sport is more popular it is much more aggressive, and so it requires much more training and intensity in order to make it in the baseball playing industry.

Connor R. Sullivan owns and operates a top ranking web site to help people find baseball equipment to improve their baseball skills. His website offers a large selection of training aids as well as baseball instruction for parents and youth baseball coaches.

Becoming the best baseball player on the field doesn’t happen overnight. Some of the best players on the field today have worked for years trying to get where they are. It takes hard work and a good baseball strength training program is an important part of that. As a beginner there are a few training tips you should learn.

While running drills are excellent for gaining speed on the field, in order to get more strength you will need to focus on a weight lifting workout. Remember that you have to combine more types of weights. For example you should work with free weights, kettle balls and also with resistance weight.

If you are new to this type of exercising you need to take it easy at first. The last thing you want is to hurt yourself. Start with some easy exercises. You will get more strength if you exercise a little every day. For working the upper body you should always use lighter weights to avoid injury.

In order to avoid shoulder injuries, you should steer clear of practicing pressing motions with heavy weights. Heavy weights can, and should, be used only for exercising your lower body. It is important to remember: before you start any strength training program you should prepare your muscles by stretching. Yoga techniques have proven beneficial in this area.

It is important to have core strength when playing baseball. Many of the most basic on field skills require it. Exercises targeting the abdomen and lower back are helpful for gaining this.

Consistent training is imperative if you want to see great results on the field. Talent alone will not make you a great player. It requires sacrifices and hard work to become one of the best.

Everyone talks about who won or lost during the off-season of any sport and what records have been set. Real athletes understand, however, that talk is cheap and the off-season should be used to start getting ready for the season ahead. It is an excellent time to start a baseball weight training program.

In recent years, there has been much buzz about famous baseball athletes who performed well and then were found to be using steroids and other harmful substances to increase their performance. Instead of participating in these illegal practices, it is important to know how to train properly so that you can be the best in the sport.

The game of baseball dictates a player be fast and powerful. As such, baseball players primarily use the core muscles in the body: those located in the stomach and the back. Major league teams realize a players’ ability to bring these elements into the game is based heavily on their weight training program. Many Major League Baseball stadiums are now equipped with weight training facilities and fitness centers that house trainers who specialize in coaching sports competitors.

The barbell push press is very effective at training the muscles in the shoulder area, allowing a baseball player to achieve a very strong swing with the bat. The front squat will benefit any athlete in increasing leg and shoulder strength as well as balance and stability. The barbell bench press, jump shrugs, and squats are other exercises that ball players should practice which strengthens the entire upper body.

Lunges and jumping jacks will help with endurance skills, and practicing jumping hurdles can be another a highly beneficial exercise for athletes to take part in.

Not only is it important to increase your stamina and weight lifting skills, but you should also practice sprinting and agility drills so that you are quick on your feet. Do your best to be in good physical shape for the games before your season begins and you will be well on your way to a winning season.

The Marlins franchise has become synonymous with its expert status in the field of developing fine, young talent and then trading it away to other teams in exchange for more youth. This strategy isn’t necessarily by choice, as poor ticket sales prevent the team from having the ability to sign big names.

Somehow, the Marlins have come away with two World Series championships in their 16 years of existence. Once in 1997, and again in 2003. Much of their success has resulted from great young pitching, and the following article will list the top five players to have ever pitched for the franchise.

5. Carl Pavano – Most will think of Pavano as a Yankee or an Indian, but 5+ years ago, Pavano was a Florida Marlin, and a great one at that. His 2004 season stands above all else, as Pavano had an 18-8 record and a 3.00 earned run average. Pavano finished his Marlins career at 33-22, and this is certainly enough to warrant his top-5 status.

4. AJ Burnett – One of the best pitchers in baseball when it comes to striking batters out, Burnett was a strikeout aficionado in Florida too, as evidenced by his 2002 season, which consisted of 203 strikeouts and a low ERA at 3.30. Injuries somewhat limited his potential in Florida, and Burnett lost (50) a slightly higher number of games than he won (49).

3. Kevin Brown – Brown would actually be #1 on this list if he had pitched a couple more seasons down here. Like Pavano, Brown only pitched two seasons with the Marlins. The difference is Brown’s seasons were MUCH better. In the first year, Brown went 17-11 with a 1.89 ERA and a .94 WHIP. It doesn’t get much better than that, yet he still had 11 losses. Go figure. In his final season with the Marlins, Brown went 16-8 with a 2.69 ERA. Combining these two years gives us Brown’s career numbers with the Marlins: a 33-19 record with a 2.30 ERA. Based on career stats in general, there’s no question that Brown is the best SP to ever pitch for the Marlins. However, because he only pitched for the Marlins for two seasons, it simply wouldn’t be fair to give the #1 spot to him.

2. Josh Beckett – Like Burnett, Beckett suffered a plethora of injuries during his five seasons with the Marlins that limited his production. In fact, Beckett never made 30+ starts in any single season. Beckett’s best single season came in 2005 when he went 15-8 with a 3.37 ERA. In his career as a Marlin, Beckett finished 41-34 with a 3.46 ERA, 607 strikeouts in 609 innings, and only 529 hits allowed. However, Beckett is probably most known for his dominating performance during the 2003 playoffs, in which he compiled a 2.11 ERA and helped knock off the heavily favored Yankees. He is considered to be the best playoff pitcher in Marlins history.

1. Dontrelle Willis – His career ERA as a Marlin (3.78) may be a bit higher than others on this list, but Dontrelle Willis has more wins than any Florida Marlins pitcher (68), and more starts as a Marlin (162). Additionally, Dontrelle Willis compiled a season that was just as good as (if not better than) any other pitcher to don a Marlins uniform, with a 22-10 record and a 2.63 ERA. Seasons like these are rare, and Willis finished second in Cy Young voting that season. To top it all off, Willis’s 8 home runs as a Marlin are more than any pitcher in the team’s history.

Pitchers to watch for the future include Josh Johnson, currently in the midst of a breakout season, and Ricky Nolasco, a young pitcher with a lot of upside. Either one of them could easily make this list with another season or two in Florida.

When he was in Philadelphia, Ed Wade acquired a reputation as a builder of bullpens. Now the Astros' general manager, Wade has continued that tradition. He seems to love crafting a bullpen the way he loves running triathlons. When he first got the job in Houston, it didn't take Wade long to overhaul the relief corps. Gone were Brad Lidge and Chad Qualls. In came Jose Valverde, Doug Brocail, Oscar Villarreal and Geoff Geary. At the trade deadline last year, he added LaTroy Hawkins.

When he was in Philadelphia, Ed Wade acquired a reputation as a builder of bullpens. Now the Astros’ general manager, Wade has continued that tradition. He seems to love crafting a bullpen the way he loves running triathlons. When he first got the job in Houston, it didn’t take Wade long to overhaul the relief corps. Gone were Brad Lidge and Chad Qualls. In came Jose Valverde, Doug Brocail, Oscar Villarreal and Geoff Geary. At the trade deadline last year, he added LaTroy Hawkins.

Wade’s strategy is very clear, and it involves a deep bullpen because of his belief that every bullpen is full of its disappointments. Building around this expectation helps to maintain depth in a department that is crucial to a team’s success. The problem with this strategy is the enormous price tag that it comes at.

By my fuzzy math, the Astros’ bullpen salary comes out to $18.424 million. That’s in the same ballpark as what the World Champion Phillies spend, the team closest in overall market size to what the Astros are. Yet, if you look at some of the other contending National League teams, the bullpen cost appears to be above average. The Dodgers, even with George Sherrill recently added from the Orioles, has a bullpen costing around $7.2 million. St. Louis is spending around $6.2 million. The Braves spend about $12 million. The Giants about $13 million. Looking at that, you can understand why the Dodgers could afford to add Randy Wolf while the Astros couldn’t.

In Wade’s defense, the entire problem isn’t his responsibility. The Astros signed closer Jose Valverde to a large contract and the team had planned to ship him out during the off-season. Due to the economic difficulties of the past year, teams will no longer take on such a high salary unless they’re fully confident in the player, and Valverde doesn’t fit the bill.

So now we’re left with no choice but to accept the huge price tag in the bullpen, so you’d at least expect some success with such high salaries intact. Far from the truth, though. The Astros bullpen has a season ERA of 4.28. The team has the second most blown saves in the MLB, and many of its pitchers have spent some time on the disabled list in 2009. Cecil Cooper’s poor treatment of his bullpen pitchers is partly responsibly for this.

Partly due to injury and partly due to a lack of confidence in his pitchers, Cooper rode Sampson and Hawkins hard for the first three months. By the All-Star Break, it was clear that both were running on empty and it was no surprise that both landed on the disabled list before July was over. Sampson, Hawkins and Byrdak lead the club in appearances but Byrdak has often been used to face just one or two batters. Sampson and Fulchino lead in relief innings pitched but Fulchino has often been the mop-up pitcher in blowout losses. There are some baseball thinkers who believe spending starting pitcher money on a closer is a bad idea. Why spend so much on a guy who might get in 70 innings when a starter should amass close to 200 innings?

There’s much debate as to whether a team is better off spending its money on one great starting pitcher or on a few capable relievers. While both situations have their ups and downs, it seems that in this case, the Astros need to make a decisive move in one direction; either slim down the bullpen or continue building toward a stronger one.

So many names in Houston (and talented ones) are on the verge of seeing increased salaries or expiring contracts. Wandy Rodriguez, Michael Bourne, Hunter Pence, and Miguel Tejada are just a few of these names. There’s no way the Astros can maintain their bullpen and sign all of these names too.

Logically, you’d expect them to ship out some relievers…but this is Ed Wade, so who knows what happens from here.
