In a sport like baseball, speed is necessary in order to achieve victory. Whether running for a home run, stealing a base or throwing a fast curveball pitch. Speed spells the difference between winning and losing. Things like that can turn things around and change the course of the game. Although, one may argue that having strength is better, still speed and proper technique is more desirable. Therefore, to increase batting speed is key to victory.

Batting, is an essential part of the game whether for a home run, bunt or even a sacrifice fly. But unfortanately, not all players have that athletic gift that made players like Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez and Babe Ruth score legendary home runs and reach monstrous home run records reaching up to 700. It may even take a lifetime duplicating such feats for less gifted athletes.

However, there are practical techniques that can be observed in order to increase batting speed. Nevermind, all that performance-enhancing drugs. True, it will help improve performance and produce more muscles. But these steroids, in the long run will just do more harm than good. It can cause suicidal depression and can elevate sleeping blood pressure, change LDL/HDL cholesterol ratio, or cause enlargement of the heart’s left ventricular region. And worse, ruin the integrity of the athletes involved which may lead to loss of endorsements or worse, getting banned entirely. In reality, to increase batting speed, you need good position, correct swing, good work ethic and the proper use of the core section and lower body which helps create extra force and bat speed while swinging.

A good core section and lower body are the essentials of having a good batting speed. Try to loosen up and relax while waiting for the pitch. Proper posture and balance should be observed while batting, make sure that the heels are firmly planted. A tense shoulders can make muscles tight and can tire it easily. It is important to remember to use the entire body while swinging to create more force and velocity while batting. Remember to rotate the whole body while keeping the knee perpendicular to the ground when turning.

The proper use of the lower section combined with a strong core can add extra force and increase batting speed. Always maintain the side firm and straight with the other front knee. Use the lower half and the core section throughout the swing, keeping the batting knee turned throughout. Maintain the arms flexed and end up with the bat chest high and above the shoulders when finishing the swing.

A serious player who wants to increase batting speed should take advantage of the sports technology available today. A player must a find a training program suitable for him which will cover every facet of his performance. Today, there are practical tips to increase batting speed, one can use a heavier bat while practising. Swinging as many times during a minute interval is also advisable.

One can also add strength and conditioning or plyometrics to their training regimen. With isometric training, muscles will be isolated and conditioned thus having better reflexes, speed, acceleration and quickness. All of these training exercises can tremendously benefit the player and increase their strength and batting speed. This will definitely help the athlete improve his batting speed.

There are also online training programs available and batting coaches for those who wants a more personalized approach. All of this training can definitely help the player increase batting speed, but without practise it will just be useless. Without passion practice, even the best talent will be outclassed by a mediocre but dedicated player.

With the advent of the sporting season many players will be anxious to get back out on the field to hone their skills. baseball hitting drills are the best way to ensure that each individual player reaches his full potential, and these can be found on the baseball instruction DVDs that are available.

Many players may have just hung around in between seasons. Even if this is children or adults, it is important to get them back on track with very specific training techniques. These will strengthen the muscles, which may have become undefined with no exercise during the time off, and improve hand to eye coordination which may need sharpening.

By getting the whole team to study the discs together, many will be able to point out different areas which could lead to better plays from all the players. Regular training sessions with selected groups will not only help them to concentrate on what may be weak points, it will also help to bring up the weaker players to be on a par with the stronger members of the team.

Different batting plays are there for everyone to study, from recent games and even from past games. Learning to treat every game as the the most important game of the season will make sure that they give their all for that couple of hours it takes to play the match.

Even pre-match practicing is very important to instill a kind of discipline, particularly in the ones who think that they know it all. Warm up routines are not liked by so many but they are essential so that muscles do not get torn or pulled. Even ensuring water breaks are taken can mean the difference between winning and losing and should be followed to the letter.

Plays like the ‘suicide squeeze’ are ones that have been tried many times in the past. They are a little dangerous, hence the suicide bit, but can be quite effective if risk is the game the trainer favors. The runner starts to sprint as soon as the pitcher gets read to lifts his arm to throw. The only problem with this is that if the batter misses the ball, the runner is in somewhat of a ‘no mans land’ cannot go back or forward. He is very likely to be out at this stage since he was targetted for this play. However, if the ball is hit, and hit well, he will have gained several yards and be further

Another play is the ‘hidden ball’ trick where a fielder feigns throwing the ball but hides it on his person. Everyone takes off, expecting to make it to the next plate but this is where disaster strikes.

Learning different plays will make the players far more confident with each other. Knowing what everyone else will be doing will make sure that, even if a pitcher does not do what is expected, the batter will know exactly what to expect from his team mates as they will be ready for his move and will act accordingly.
