Pitching Mechanics are important to know considering they can add years to your pitching career and decrease the likelihood of injury to your arm. Pitching Mechanics are helpful, if done properly, because you utilize your entire body to throw the baseball as opposed to merely relying on your arm for velocity.

Find a qualified pitching instructor: Find a pitching instructor who knows a great deal about pitching mechanics. There are many instructors that have played at high levels even in the major leagues who have a great knowledge of pitching mechanics, however, they dont know the first thing about teaching. Make sure the pitching instructor you choose has plenty of testimonials and has a proven track record for success.

If you find a good instructor he will give you effective drills to work on. Most of the drills should be focused on proper mechanics when you first start. Make sure you are consistent with those drills and you repeat the correct motions each time you do them. So many times pitchers do the drills and repeat the wrong thing over and over again just to say they have done their drills for the day. It has been said that it takes about one thousand repetitions to create a habit and only a couple of wrong repetitions to ruin it. Be careful that you are not careless doing those exercises.

One connected suggestion is to make certain that you spend ample time on the drills your coach gives you to work on. Too few pitchers simply think that they can pick up the movements in a week or so. This type of thinking will surely stunt your progress and hinder your effectiveness as a pitcher.

It is also imperative that you throw the ball with a purpose. If you are playing catch with a friend in your backyard you should work on something. You dont just want to throw the ball to just throw the ball anymore. That is what throwing with a purpose means. You work on something. For the first thirty throws you may work on delayed shoulder rotation and the last twenty throws you may work on equal and opposite. But the fact of the matter is you throw with the intent to improve your throwing skills. The pitchers who do this are the ones that will get noticed because they make a conscious effort for perfection in their delivery.

Every time you turn on the television and watch a game with your child, there are actually two different messages being sent simultaneously. Two DIFFERENT games are going on at the same time, depending on your intention and focus.

There are movements, mechanics, routines, and situations that should be observed as games are going on. I remind my players not to watch the game but to watch the movements and strategy! Study the pitches that are thrown in different counts. It is amazing how much can be learned through observation, if you are LOOKING to learn!

The next time you are with your child a college game, or watch a Major League game on television, spend some time talking about what is going on in the game from a movements and strategy standpoint. You will notice that when you spend sometime viewing the game from this perspective, you will notice things that were right in front of your face before, but you never quite saw them taking place.

“But, Coach, Look At Gary Sheffield Hit, He Waves His Arms Before He Swings, Why Can’t I hit that way? He’s Pretty Good.” This is a question that I sometimes get from younger players in regards to a Major League Players mechanics.

To me, this question has an easy two part answer. All good hitters and pitchers may start different, but at contact or release all have the same fundamental mechanical aspects. And number two; some Major League Players have tremendous rare and uncommon physical ability. This sometimes allows them to “deviate” away from a few mechanical fundamentals. As a coach or parent, we should also be looking for what has the greatest chance of making a player better.

Pitching machines have become a unique commodity that helps to address any problem that you may be facing inside the batting box. Whether you are a little star or a professional baseball champion you will find that the benefits of using a commercial pitching machines are numerous. But choosing the best machine amongst all these becomes a difficult task in terms of quality and cost. It is wise to note the following points in choosing the best commercial pitching machine.

First of all you need to choose a baseball pitching machine that is soundly built and which makes use of quality materials. This will help you in your investing in choosing the best quality machine that would last long. You may have to spend extra in order to get the best machine that will be able to withstand the wear and tear that happens with frequent practice by making use of your commercial pitching machine. Though you might need to spend heavily in the beginning, it is wise to do so as you may not have to spend on repairs or maybe even a complete replacement later.

The next thing that you need to consider is the style and speed of the pitch. This will mainly be crucial in case you are purchasing the pitching machine for a younger player who will need a lot of practice and who will need to expand his game in order to take faster pitches. The biggest complaint that comes from the coaches is the ability for the pitching machine to perfectly replicate a pitch each time. This will help the player to know exactly what type of pitch to expect, which will not be the case when it comes to actual playing of the game against a human pitcher. You will be able to perform better if you have a pitching machine that will vary in its speed, style and the location of the pitches.

You should choose a pitching machine that is solid for your needs. You should be able to develop a budget and work towards the price range that fits appropriately to your needs. As a beginner baseball or a softball player, you may not need a pitching machine that is available in the batting cages or in the equipment rooms of professional ball clubs. As an advancing player you may need a machine that will help you to advance further with your skills. Every player needs to practice with the machine that is most appropriate to him. Once you have decided on your needs and your budget you can go ahead and look in the market to find an appropriate commercial pitching machine that will meet all your criteria.
