As the winter winds down across America, million of baseball fans anxiously await the upcoming season. Will their home team finally win the World Series? Were the new players added the keys to their future? With 162 games ahead, many fans will live and die trying to answer these questions. However, fantasy baseball can help you make it through the season even if your home team is the worst team in the league!
Building a Fantasy team is a blast! Doing research on all of the players and understanding how they might help your team is great fun and in many leagues, there are even prizes to be won. Conceptually, it allows anyone to become the General Manager of their team.
Once you decide where to play, now it is time to rank your players. Each of the hundreds of players on each teams 40 man roster will be available to research. Many of the choices are ranked highly and are well known players, based on last years performance and star quality. However, with some extensive research, you may find some hidden gems!! Maybe the Rookie of the Year or the Comeback Player of the Year. Finding these players are some of the reasons Fantasy Baseball is such fun.
Once the team is selected it is time for you to check the waiver wire. This is where all of the player reside that were not picked by anyone. Most times, there are hidden gems to be had, so do some research and you may even find the next superstar. Usually, some of the players that are destined to be role players are here, but with one injury, they become important and can have a huge impact on your team. So this is a great place to spend time.
In most leagues there are positions for 13-15 players. One for each of the 8 field positions, 2 or 3 utility players and your pitching staff. Most leagues have a limit on how many games each player can play, so be careful how you use them. Over the long baseball season, there are many opportunities to pick up a spot starter or a hot relief pitcher that you may only keep for a couple of days, or you might find they are stronger than one of your regulars.
Learn as much as you can about the waiver wire. This is the place where undrafted players reside. There are always unranked players that become hugely important, throughout the season. A part time player quickly becomes a starter with an injury. Many times pitchers who were not highly ranked will get off to a great start and can be major benefits to your team.
Most sports sites will offer Fantasy Baseball Leagues. Check them all to see who offers the best of what. There are cash prizes, trips to World Series games and baseball paraphernalia that can don your mantel with trophies of your great year. They can take up some time so understand that your team will be like a child and needs to be nurtured! Spend some time and build your dynasty and maybe you will be the General Manager of the Year, even if your local team is residing at the bottom of the league.
